The annual end-of-the-year one mile run around Columbine Elementary School has been going strong for 47 years! This year, the Mile Marathon will be held on Tuesday May 20, 2025, with a rain date of Wednesday, May 21st. Columbine Elementary is located at 3130 Repplier Street in Boulder, Colorado. The Mile Marathon event takes place from 8:00am to 10:30am, with the race beginning approximately at 9am. The starting line is on Glenwood Drive and 20th Street, and the race is released in waves by grade–starting with 5th graders–to minimize congestion.
Event Guests–a combination of informal athletes, avid runners, and elite competitors–support the Mile Marathon by hosting classes of students before and during the run. Prior athletes include:
- two-time marathon World Champion Edna Kiplagat
- Columbine alumni Ryan Van Duzer
- American ultramarathoner Scott Jurek
- Brian Andzejewicz

As the primary fundraiser for Columbine Elementary School, students will be asked to get “sponsored” to run in the form of donations from family, friends, neighbors, etc. EVERY STUDENT PARTICIPATES IN THE MILE MARATHON, NO MATTER IF THEY FUNDRAISE OR NOT! Our goal this year is to raise $25,000 (about $50 a child), to fund repairs to the school greenhouse or audio system.
For the safety of all participating, there will be road closures for the event. Please see the running route map or reference the Frequently Asked Questions page for additional information.
All donations go to the 501(c)(3) Columbine PTA and are tax exempt. If you can help contribute to this amazing legacy, please consider donating! Every donation means one step towards supporting our mission: inspiring kids with a love for fitness and bringing our community closer together. Keep checking back to monitor our progress! Thank you for considering to help support an amazing cause!
